7 January 2022, General

First come first served

We are expanding the team at Alterledger and have vacancies from entry level trainees to experienced qualified accountants. Technical skills are important, but these can all be learned – your key selling point as a job applicant is your attitude and mindset. Have a look at the matrix below and see where you can create value for Alterledger.

Design your own job

Choose your own salary

You decide what you are worth to the business – make your case for the salary you want!

The matrix above shows the attributes you need to develop your career at Alterledger.  You are likely to be more developed in some areas than others.  When you are pitching for your salary level, make sure you can evidence development beyond the first column as you advance towards £50,000.

Not all the areas will develop in parallel, but you will need to show complementary progress to advance.  You will be supported with training and opportunities to develop your experience to help you move along your career path.

Technical skills

Technical skills can be learned.  If you have a growth mindset you will be able to advance quickly through the initial stages below.  Where you have initial gaps in IT skills, we can agree a programme to get you up to speed.

IT and accounting skills are required as below.  A minimum level of tax and financial reporting is required as your role increases, but you can specialise in one of these areas without moving in parallel in the other.

Technical Skills Development

Entry level

Any new member of the team will be given training on the IT systems.  The minimum requirement for trainees (and all job applicants) includes:

  • Educated to degree level
  • Advanced Excel
  • Familiar with Outlook and Word

All further technical training for entry level trainees will be provided by Alterledger.  We expect you to advance through the technical skills above including membership of a UK accountancy body.  We will provide study support including your course fees and exam fees for CIMA or ACCA.

How to apply

Email with your CV and a covering letter.  Your covering letter will include your salary expectations with reference to the “Design your own job” matrix and your technical skills.  There is a full range of jobs available, but they are offered on a first come first served basis so get in early!

Selection process

If you make a compelling case, you will be invited for an initial online interview.  You will need access to a computer with a webcam and Excel installed.  We will ask you to perform a few tasks in Excel while sharing your screen.  You will have the opportunity to make your pitch for the salary you expect based on evidence of your personal attributes and skills.

The second stage of the selection process is an interview in Legal House.  All the positions are available immediately.  Part time positions will also be considered.
